European Central Bank Board Member: ECB Interest Rate Cycle Nearing End
BlockBeats News, September 14th, Martin Kocher, the new President of the Austrian Central Bank and a member of the ECB's Governing Council, stated in an interview that, barring a major shock, the European Central Bank could temporarily maintain interest rates at 2%. "Currently, this interest rate cycle has ended, or is very close to the end," Kocher said.
This Thursday, the ECB, in its second consecutive meeting, decided to keep the interest rate unchanged at 2%. Kocher said, "If the data does not change significantly," the reasons for this month's decision will to some extent "continue to be valid in the future several ECB meetings." When asked about his personal stance, Kocher said that he currently "tends to be cautious in monetary policy" and advises not to take too many risks on inflation issues. (Golden Finance)
