Lithuania to Intensify Crackdown on Unlicensed Cryptocurrency Firms Starting in 2026
BlockBeats News, December 26th. According to Cryptopolitan, the Bank of Lithuania has warned that cryptocurrency service providers operating in Lithuania must obtain a license by December 31, 2025, or face corresponding consequences. Any platform that fails to achieve compliance this year will soon be considered operating illegally in the Baltic country, as Lithuania is now rigorously enforcing relevant European regulatory rules.
All entities providing cryptocurrency-related services in Lithuania must hold a license. For companies already operating in this field, such as cryptocurrency exchanges and wallet service providers, the regulators had previously granted a transition period to obtain the necessary operational permits; this transition period will end by the close of 2025.
The Bank of Lithuania (BoL) once again reminds market participants that this requirement is not a recommendation but a mandatory regulation.
