Tornado Cash case prosecutors cite misinformation to prove guilty consciousness
Odaily News At the pretrial hearing of Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm, prosecutors for the Southern District of the United States mistakenly attributed a Telegram message asking how to cash out $600 million to the development team to prove their guilt consciousness. Defense documents show that the message was actually written by a CoinDesk reporter and forwarded to the Tornado Cash group by Alexey Pertsev. Prosecutors acknowledged that the original chat records provided did not show the forward label, which led to misunderstandings, but said that a corrected version was provided in December 2024. Storms defense team requested the exclusion of all Telegram evidence from Pertsevs mobile phone and questioned the integrity of the grand jury process. Pertsev has been sentenced to 64 months in prison by a Dutch court for assisting in money laundering. (The Block)
