Tower Semiconductor is an independent, specialized wafer foundry primarily serving semiconductor manufacturers. Wafer foundries do not supply their own products but centrally manufacture integrated circuits based on customers' specific design requirements. The company primarily manufactures semiconductors for customers based on third-party designs. Tower Semiconductor was founded in 1993 after acquiring National Semiconductor's 150mm wafer fabrication plant in Migdale Emecco, Israel, and operates commercially as an independent wafer foundry.
