BlockBeats News, August 11th. According to The Wall Street Journal, E.J. Antoni, Chief Economist of the conservative think tank Traditional Foundation, has emerged as a leading candidate for the head of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). According to a senior government official, the Trump administration is interviewing candidates for the BLS director position, including at least one long-time critic of the agency. Earlier this month, following a weak jobs report, Trump removed the BLS director from office, and officials are currently considering potential replacements.

E.J. Antoni, who is undergoing interviews, has been a vocal critic of the BLS's employment data collection methods as Chief Economist of the Traditional Foundation. A White House spokesperson stated, "President Trump has selected the most talented individuals to lead the federal government and will announce the new BLS director appointee after a decision is made." The report noted that the White House's consideration of appointing prominent critics signals Trump's plans for a significant overhaul of the agency. (FXStreet)
