The US Department of Justice has uncovered the largest healthcare fraud case in history, with $245 million in cryptocurrency, cash, and more seized.
BlockBeats News, July 3rd, according to Forbes, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the bust of the largest healthcare fraud scheme in history, with a total of 324 defendants charged, involving over $14.6 billion in false claims. These defendants include 96 healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, spread across all 50 federal districts and 12 state attorney general's offices in the United States.
This operation also seized over $245 million in cash, cryptocurrency, luxury vehicles, and other assets. At the same time, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) prevented over $4 billion in fraudulent payments by suspending or revoking billing privileges for 205 providers. The "Operation Gold Pill" case in this investigation accounts for $10.6 billion of the fraud, and is linked to organized crime in Russia, Estonia, and Kazakhstan. Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated that a zero-tolerance approach will be taken against criminal activities exploiting the healthcare system.
