U.S. Court Ruling Allows Powell to Vote at Next Week's FOMC Meeting
BlockBeats News, September 10th, Nick Timiraos, a Wall Street Journal reporter known as the "Fed Whisperer," posted on social media that U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb has temporarily blocked the removal of Fed Governor Randal Quarles by former President Trump. The court will issue a restraining order instructing Powell and the Board to allow Quarles to continue serving as a Board member during the lawsuit. This means Quarles may vote at next week's FOMC meeting (unless a higher court overturns the injunction before then).
However, Judge Cobb's preliminary ruling does not address the key issue, namely whether the Trump administration's claim that Quarles was involved in mortgage fraud before taking office constitutes sufficient grounds for dismissal. The case is expected to ultimately be brought before the U.S. Supreme Court.
