Dark Web

The dark web refers to a part of the internet that is not indexed by traditional search engines and can only be accessed using special software, such as Tor (The Onion Router). This hidden network provides greater anonymity and is often associated with illegal activities, including drug sales, stolen data, and other illicit goods and services. Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin have been widely used on the dark web due to their pseudonymous nature, allowing users to conduct transactions without revealing their real identities. While the dark web has legitimate uses, such as providing a safe space for whistleblowers and journalists in oppressive regimes, it is often linked to criminal enterprises. One infamous example of cryptocurrency use on the dark web was the now-defunct marketplace Silk Road, which facilitated illegal transactions using Bitcoin. Although law enforcement agencies have improved their ability to track cryptocurrency transactions, the dark web remains a hotspot for anonymous trading.
