Decentralized Finance (DeFi)

By: WEEX|2024/10/25 08:19:45

Decentralized Finance (DeFi) refers to a financial ecosystem built on blockchain technology that eliminates the need for traditional financial intermediaries, such as banks, by enabling peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions through smart contracts. DeFi allows users to engage in lending, borrowing, trading, and investing directly on blockchain networks, such as Ethereum, without the need for a central authority. Key DeFi applications include decentralized exchanges (DEXs), lending platforms like Aave, and stablecoins like DAI. The appeal of DeFi lies in its transparency, openness, and the ability to provide financial services to the unbanked or underbanked population. However, it also carries risks such as smart contract vulnerabilities, regulatory uncertainty, and market volatility. DeFi has been one of the most significant developments in the cryptocurrency space, with billions of dollars locked in DeFi protocols, driving innovation in decentralized lending, staking, and yield farming.
